Alex Flinn

Bio

Alex Flinn is an award-winning author of nine young adult novels. Her latest release, a fairy tale-tinged novel titled Bewitching, is a follow up to her No. 1 New York Times best seller, Beastly. Her debut novel Breathing Underwater was selected as one of the American Library Association's Top Ten Best Books for Young Adults and is part of the school curriculum issued as part of Liz Claiborne's Love is Not Abuse campaign against dating violence. Flinn is also the author of Cloaked and A Kiss in Time as well as Fade to Black, Breaking Point, Nothing to Lose, and her sequel to Breathing Underwater, Diva.

Flinn’s novels have won numerous awards, including multiple selections by the Junior Library Guild, the Rhode Island Teen Book Award Master List, the New York Public Library Books for the Teen Age list, and the Iowa High School Book Award Master List. She has also had multiple novels selected as American Library Association Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Readers.

Flinn studied opera at the University of Miami and went on to attend law school. She practiced law for a decade, and her experiences as an intern at the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office and a volunteer for battered women helped inform Breathing Underwater. A past participant in the Key West Literary Seminar, she credits other young adult authors, including Richard Peck and Joyce Sweeney, as sources of help and inspiration in her own writing career.

Flinn was born on Long Island, New York, but her family moved to Miami when she was in middle school. She currently lives in suburban Miami with her husband, two daughters, and several pets.
