Louise Rennison

Bio

Louise Rennison is an English writer who has carved out her place in teen literature over the past decade with the Confessions of Georgia Nicolson series. She has released a total of ten books that star the precocious teenager who goes through experiences that young women everywhere can relate to.

The first book Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging came out in 1999 and has since been followed by On the Bright Side, I'm Now the Girlfriend of a Sex God; Knocked Out by Nunga-Nungas; Dancing in my Nuddy-Pants; Away Laughing on a Fast Camel; …Then He Ate My Boy Entrancers; Startled by His Furry Shorts; Love is a Many Trousered Thing; Stop in the Name of Pants!; and Are These My Basoomas I See Before Me?

The ten books have created a small literary empire for Rennison in her native England, having sold several million copies and even spawned a few motion pictures. She has won a number of awards in the United Kingdom for her witty and entertaining writing, and generated a large amount of revenue from the sales of her books.

Before she became a major player in the UK literary scene, Rennison worked as a comedian, writing a number of shows that she performed in front of audiences while on tour in the 1980s.

In the past few years, Rennison has published two books that are likely marking the beginning of her next series for teenagers. The The Misadventures of Tallulah Casey series similarly dives into the personal life of a girl transforming into a woman, and the two titles released so far (Withering Tights and A Midsummer Tights Dream) have played to rave reviews on the other side of the pond.

Rennison was raised in Yorkshire, England, where she lived in a modest house with many of her extended family members. The crowded and often boisterous environment is thought to be the basis of many of her ideas for the predicaments that Georgia Nicholson managed to get into. The Rennison family opted to relocate to New Zealand while Louise was still attending high school, but she soon returned to attend and graduate from Brighton University. She currently makes her residence within a stone's throw of the prestigious university. Rennison's works are published by HarperCollins Publishers UK.
